How to Circle Crop an Image Online
Upload Your Photo and Position the Circle
Start with the original photo, not a tiny preview saved from a message. Select an image above, or drag a file into the upload area. Your photo opens in a private browser workspace with a centered circular selection. The darkened area outside the ring shows what will be left out, so you can frame with confidence before saving anything.
Drag in Move circle mode to place the boundary around a face, object or logo. Switch to Pan image if you prefer to move the photo beneath the selection. This circular photo cropper is free to use without creating an account, and the image bytes stay on your device throughout editing.
Adjust the Crop Area and Download Your Round Image
Change the diameter with the Circle size slider or resize handle. Zoom for closer framing, rotate a sideways photo, or straighten a slight tilt. Preview the result, choose PNG for transparent corners, and download the real image file. Read the square-to-circle walkthrough for help with tricky edge details.
Circle Crop Photo for Profile Pictures and Avatars
Make a Round Profile Picture That Fits Your Face
A useful avatar is recognizable even beside a small comment or message. Leave a little room above the hair, keep the chin inside the lower curve, and include enough shoulder detail for a natural composition. The circle narrows near its top corners, so check the actual outline instead of the square workspace.
Crop a Photo into a Circle for Social Media
Use this round profile picture maker to prepare the framing before opening your social app. Platforms can apply their own scaling, masks and compression, so inspect the destination’s preview too. There is no universal avatar dimension for every service. Our Instagram and WhatsApp guide explains comfortable headroom, practical exports and the final upload check.
Create a Circle Crop Image with a Transparent Background
Save Your Round Photo as a Transparent PNG or WebP
PNG is the default when you want a circle crop image with transparent background pixels outside the ring. It fits naturally on a colored slide or website card. WebP also supports transparency and appears in the export menu when the browser can encode it. A checkerboard in Preview represents clear pixels; it is not added to the downloaded file.
When to Use JPG with a Solid Background
JPG cannot store transparency. Choose it when the destination needs an opaque image, and deliberately select a background color for the square corners. That matte stays the same wherever the image is placed. Circle cropping also keeps the original background behind your subject inside the ring; it does not remove it automatically. See the format comparison or white-corner fix if your result looks unexpected.

Which Image Formats Can You Upload?
The circle image cropper accepts JPG, PNG and WebP after checking file content and browser decoding. GIF, BMP and AVIF inputs open only when your browser can decode them. Animation becomes one static decoded frame. HEIC and SVG are not supported here; export a compatible local copy first.
How to Keep Your Circular Crop Sharp and Clear
Exports are drawn from the decoded original rather than a small screen capture. A tighter crop uses fewer source pixels, so avoid unnecessary zoom. Output presets are upper bounds and never enlarge beyond the selected source detail. Exports are capped at 4096 pixels per side; inputs at 30 MB and 40 megapixels. The sharpness guide helps you diagnose a soft face, a small original or excessive destination scaling.
Adjust the Round Image Cropper on Mobile and Desktop
Zoom, Move, Rotate and Resize the Circle Selection
The round image cropper separates circle movement from image panning so each adjustment is understandable. Rotate in quarter turns, flip either axis or use Straighten for smaller angles. Undo recovers a recent transform; Reset restores the starting geometry. The selection always stays circular. Empty areas inside it remain transparent or use your chosen background. On desktop, focus the canvas and use arrow keys; hold Shift for larger moves.
How to Crop Pictures into Circles on iPhone and Android
To crop photo into circle online from a phone, choose the local image, drag to frame and use the sliders for precise changes. Pinch inside the canvas to zoom, or use the Zoom slider instead. The saved file may appear in Files or Downloads rather than Photos. Our mobile guide walks through finding it and checking transparency.
Frequently Asked Questions About Circle Cropping
A few helpful answers before you find your perfect frame.
How do I crop an image into a circle?
Select your image, drag the circular selection around the subject, and adjust its size. Choose PNG with transparency, then download. To crop circle from image files that are wider than they are tall, move the selection to keep the important details comfortably inside the ring.
Why is my round image still a square file?
Raster images use rectangular pixel grids. To make a picture round, the cropper hides the corners with transparent pixels. A viewer may display those pixels on white. Place the PNG over a colored background to check that the corners are clear.
Can I change the size of the circle?
Yes. Drag the resize handle or use Circle size. Zoom changes the size of the underlying photo; Move circle and Pan image adjust different parts of the composition. The circle keeps equal width and height, so it never becomes an oval.
Does circle cropping remove my photo’s background?
It removes the area outside the circular boundary. The original background behind your subject stays inside the circle. Use a source that already has transparency if you need empty gaps within a logo or artwork to remain clear.
Are my photos uploaded or stored?
Photo processing happens in your browser. We do not send the selected image to a processing server or store it in a database. Closing or refreshing the page clears the editor. Files you download are saved by your browser on your device.
Will the download keep its original quality?
The export uses the original decoded image, but the selected crop can contain fewer pixels. We cap output at the available source detail rather than enlarging it. PNG avoids lossy export compression; JPG and WebP offer a quality control.
Can I circle crop on my phone for free?
Yes. The editor supports touch movement, circle resizing and zoom controls in a mobile layout. No account or payment is needed. Browser memory and format support still apply; use a current browser and a compatible image for the most dependable result.
